Megachurch pastor Joel Osteen has announced via Facebook a new prayer submission fee for his congregation. Under the new system, churchgoers will be charged based on the number of prayers they submit each month. Osteen outlined two membership options: a "Basic Prayer Package," which allows three prayer submissions for $24.99 per month, and a "Premium Prayer Package," which includes ten prayer requests for $49.99 per month. The "Platinum Prayer" tier, in addition to prayer submissions, offers members exclusive opportunities to purchase tickets for Osteen’s upcoming events at local arenas.
The announcement has sparked a range of reactions from his followers, with some praising the initiative for helping fund church activities, while others express concern over the commercialization of prayer. Osteen has not yet responded to requests for further comment.
When the Coloradan Times reached out to Joel’s church, Lakewood Church, to confirm this. They said that it was “False.”
However, when the Coloradan Times reached out to Snopes to confirm, they said that it was “True.”
This is a developing story. Updates will follow as new information emerges.
